Taylor Wessing has advised the Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas on the drafting and negotiation of the project agreements for Vattenfall‘s offshore wind farm Nordlicht 1. The contracts, which were signed in June 2024, cover the delivery and installation of 68 V236-15.0 MW turbines with a rotor diameter of 236 meters, including their service and maintenance. Vestas has now secured the firm order for the offshore wind farm Nordlicht 1.
The Nordlicht wind farm area is located 85 kilometres north off the island of Borkum in the German North Sea and consists of the two offshore wind farms Nordlicht 1 and Nordlicht 2. Nordlicht 1 will be the largest offshore wind project in Germany. The order for Nordlicht 1 totals 1,020 MW, with a grid connection capacity of 980 MW and an excess capacity of 40 MW to use the connection capacity as efficiently as possible. The construction of Nordlicht 1 is scheduled to start in 2026. According to the current state of planning, the wind turbines for Nordlicht 1 are expected to be installed in 2027 and the wind farm is expected to be fully operational in 2028.
Taylor Wessing has been advising Vestas under the lead of Dr Janina Pochhammer for many years on offshore wind projects. The “Projects, Energy & Infrastructure” practice group within Taylor Wessing focuses on advising on large scale infrastructure projects in the renewable energy sector.
